Your exam prep with Angelschein Bayern (Fischerei)

Bavaria takes its fishing exam seriously: the staatliche Fischerprüfung is a state-run test taken online at a computer, and its official catalogue is one of the largest in Germany – 1027 questions covering everything from fish biology to fishing law. Because German fishing exams are organised state by state, each with its own catalogue, an app that mixes in questions from NRW or Brandenburg would only waste your time. This one contains the Bavarian catalogue, complete and nothing else.

The exam is conducted exclusively in German, which is why the app is German-language too: every question in the official wording, in the same multiple-choice format as the real test, with even the wrong answer options taken from the official pool. For expats around Munich, Nuremberg or anywhere along the Danube and Isar, that means one honest requirement – you need to read German. In return, you practise precisely the sentences you will see on screen in the exam room.

A traffic-light system sorts all 1027 questions by how well you know them, and 10 timed exam sheets in the official format tell you exactly when you are ready.

Who is the app for?

The app suits everyone preparing for Bavaria's state fishing exam – including internationals who plan to fish the Danube, the Isar or an Alpine lake and are taking on the German-language test. It pairs naturally with the mandatory preparation course: what the course explains, you drill on your phone until it sticks. German reading skills are essential, as neither the exam nor the app is available in English.

The exam

The Fischerprüfung in Bavaria is a state examination taken online at a computer in approved exam centres; the responsible body is the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (LfL). Admission requires completing a recognised preparation course beforehand, and the exam itself is held in German. Current dates and registration run through the LfL online portal.

Learning features at a glance

The complete catalogue of Bavaria's state Fischerprüfung, provided through the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (LfL) and updated regularly – in the original German wording.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take the Bavarian fishing exam in English?

No – the state Fischerprüfung is offered in German only, and the official catalogue of 1027 questions exists solely in German. That is exactly why this app does not translate anything: you pass by recognising the official wording, so the app trains you with it from day one.

I'm not a German citizen – can I still get the licence?

Yes. Foreign nationals can take the Bavarian Fischerprüfung and obtain a Fischereischein like anyone else. The practical hurdle is the language: since the computer-based exam runs in German, plan your preparation around reading the official questions until they feel familiar.

Do I really need a preparation course?

Yes. In Bavaria, completing a recognised preparation course is a condition for being admitted to the state exam – the app cannot replace it. What the app does is complement the course perfectly: the course builds understanding, and the app drills the full catalogue of 1027 questions until every answer sits.

Is the app free to try?

You can download it for free and test it thoroughly with 100 questions. You only pay when you decide to unlock the complete catalogue, and there are no ads in any version.

Are the images the same as in the real exam?

For copyright reasons the images in the app differ from the official exam images. They are chosen so that you will reliably recognise the content in the exam – fish species or equipment, for example – even if the exact photo is different.

Is a Bavarian fishing licence valid in other German states?

In principle, yes: the Bavarian Fischereischein is recognised in the other states, and you only need the local water permit (Erlaubnisschein) on top. If you would rather sit the exam in another state, note that each state tests its own catalogue – our sister apps cover NRW, Brandenburg, Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony.
